From Margaritas to Mayhem

Hi again Reader,

As I alluded to in my earlier Museletter, "What Mexico Taught Me", upon returning home, I reinstated a new self-care practice.

Before my trip in January, I did a 21-day challenge of 'completing something' every day. Something that had been nagging at me but put on the back burner.

And because my life has been hijacked several times over the years by all the family chaos, things have gotten pushed aside many times over, for long periods. Like taxes, finances, paperwork, home improvements and other time-consuming administrative tasks.

The timing for this self-directed challenge felt significant for several reasons.

For one, according to the Lunar calendar, the new year didn't begin until January 22nd.

Mercury Retrograde (a time to tie up loose ends) ended January 18th.

Statistics show that most people give up on their new year's resolutions by January 19th - my day of departure - AND that it takes 21 days to create a new habit.

Put together and the cosmic signs pointed to closing off the year, plugging up energy drains and making space before my trip.

In my world, there are 10 PILLARS OF SELF-CARE but through this process I realized that "finishing things" made the new list.

Because, The Zeigarnik Effect

I learned about it in Productivity Lab from my friend/mentor, Leah Fisch. The 'Zeignarnik Effect' occurs when the brain will remember unfinished tasks better than completed ones. All incompletes take up precious mental real estate. That's why it always feels soooo good to tick off a long overdue task. Energy and creativity open up.

Aside from the emotional burnout I had shared about, I see now how all the remaining unfinished business nagged at my subconscious, also interfering with my ability to enjoy my vacation.

As a result, my current priority has been crossing things off my expired To-Do list. Right now I'm focusing on completing my 2021 taxes.

That said, if you have any incompletes or ugh tasks that you too need to address, I'm hosting a FREE work session on Zoom tomorrow, Thursday March 30th from 11-1pm PST. This will be a silent container, unlike my 'Mini Swaddles' (which start with some facilitation and laser coaching).

Come "finish things" with me, at your own pace, here. Camera on or off, it just feels better to do hard stuff in community.

PS If you are new here, welcome. If you enjoy these love notes, be sure to whitelist my email so I don't get trashed. ❤
